 | 07:14 pm - Not Dead Yet
::sigh:: Hokay. Spent most of the week before last with intermittent internet access, then three days completely without. The ISP guy came out at the end of the week and determined (as I had been telling Dad for over a year) that it was their equipment. Thus, the day before yesterday, they put in a new cable--so far, it's been better but not perfect.
Then this past week, Wilson (the snazzy new laptop I bought just before Christmas) has started getting little visits from the Blue Screen of Death two or three times a day. At first the error messages were about the video driver; then they switched to messages saying "Windows has shut down to avoid damaging your computer." Then last night (right after I had sent an E-mail saying that I'd have a certain beta to its author tomorrow) it shifted to messages saying that the size of the memory was changing, and I should reseat the memory. I ran the diagnostics, and all tests came back okay; whereupon (of course), Wilson promptly DIED. A dozen tries at rebooting went straight to the blue screen.
Anyway. After resting overnight, Wilson booted today. I'm now trying to get the beta done before it dies again. I do still have the previous computer, but it has no E-mail, and the browsers crash more than they work. So if you don't hear from me, well, I'll be back when I get Wilson fixed. Take care, all.

 | 02:46 am - Music Meme (or, B7 degrees of separation)
Right, then. From altariel: 1. Reply to this post and I'll assign you a letter. 2. List (and upload, if you feel like it) 5 songs that start with that letter. 3. Post them to your journal with these instructions.
[Note: all the links go to YouTube.]
( I love my love with an A... )
Anyway. Leaving you now with a bonus track:
6. After the Rain Has Fallen live version, video version (Sting). The live version is lovely, but typical Sting. The video version... must be experienced to be understood. Just once, mind you. bibliohippo and I giggled all the way through it. I think they may have been giggles of horror. Anyway, if you find a B7 connection here... I don't think I wanna know.
Let me know if you'd like a letter for your own list of songs.
Pax out.

...but, ZOMG, a Hermione/Snape video to "Don't Stand So Close to Me." Considering how little there is to work with in the movies, I'm surprised it works at all; ignoring the original context, some of the shots go well with the lyrics. If only Alan Rickman were about twenty years younger...
*Just for the record, Ron/Hermione, Snape/Willow. KTHXBAI.

 | 05:10 am - Fifteen characters fleeing an author...
Ooh, looky my brane is only half-broke this week! Wanna play, too.
Ahem.
Yes, well. Meme snagged from all over. If you want to play, make your list of fifteen characters before you read the questions.
My list of characters (and their fandoms):
1-The Sorting Hat (HP) 2-Worm (Labyrinth) 3-Bayban the Butcher (B7) 4-Soolin (B7) 5-Emma Peel (Avengers) 6-Hiro Nakamura (Heroes) 7-Megan Reeves (N3) 8-Larry Fleinhardt (N3) 9-Horatio Caine (CSI: Miami) 10-Jack O'Neill (SG-1) 11-Dana Scully (X-Files) 12-Bob (Dresden Files) 13-Anya Jenkins (BtVS) 14-James Wilson (House) 15-Greg House (House)
( Questions and answers behind the clicky-cut. )
You see why my characters won't talk to me any more? Yeah, that.

...late birthday greetings, of course. (Well, actually it was lack of internet access, but the other is more colorful. Anyway.)

 | 07:57 pm - When fandom saves your face
This past weekend bibliohippo inquired (to what purpose, I don't recall) whether I knew where Runnymede Bridge was.
Now, to say that my memory for history is patchy would be the most flagrant sort of spin-doctoring, but I vaguely thought I remembered Runnymede having some historical significance. A battle site in the Civil War, I thought, or the American Revolution. "Somewhere in the South, isn't it?" I said.
She snorted. "It's a bridge over the Thames."
"Well," I said. "South of England."
She didn't miss a beat before replying, "Every planet has a north."

I proffer this wish for a chiliad of benisons And the epiphenomena of eucrasia and euphelicia During the forthcoming year.

 | 07:27 pm - Now, vat shall ve tok about?
Well. Hrm. It occurs to me I haven't been very interesting lately. This situation cannot be allowed to continue, else I'll have to defriend myself out of boredom. So I appeal to you, dear flist. What would you like me to blog about? How may I entertain your braincells?
Shall I be silly, obnoxious, deeply thoughtful (fat chance)? Shall I rant or rave? Write bad filk? Compose odes to Larry's eating habits, to Avon's midnight-blue leather, to Giles's spectacle-wiping? Ask me a question, give me an assignment. I don't promise you'll get what you ask for, but you have a much better chance of getting it than if you don't ask. :)
I await your commands.

Dear kerravonsen,
I don't really know how to tell you this, but I'm in love with your sister. I think I realized it when I saw the shrunken head in your camping car and I saw you ignore the crazy monk. I'm sure you're scarred enough to understand that your Honda sucks. I'm returning your memories from the military service to you, but I'll keep your suicide note as a memory. You should also know that I told in my confession today about a new life as a clone.
Go burn,

1. Reply to this post, and I will pick four of your icons. 2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose. 3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts. 4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon squee. Whoo!
( The icons she picked for me to talk about are behind the cut. )

I may have found the perfect beverage (or at least the perfect beverage commercial) for jomacmouse.
Commercial: A man goes into a store and buys a beverage. The announcer intones, "Snapple Antioxidant Water: it protects your body." The man unscrews the cap and takes a drink as he steps outside, to find that the entire world--buildings, streets, sidewalks, trees, everything--has been covered in bubble wrap.

You know you've been a B7 fan too long when you watch "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and (1) tolerate Johnny Depp while impatiently waiting for the Oompa-Loompas; (2) rewind the Oompa-Loompa scenes over and over; (3) order the DVD so that you can see two dozen iterations of Deep Roy singing and dancing whenever you like; and (4) spend the next couple of days daydreaming about singing and dancing Decimas, and wondering if there's crossover there somewhere.
::headdesk::
ETA: Ooh, the second disc on the Special Edition has a feature all about the filming of Deep Roy's scenes! Nifty!

As suggested by maximuxverbosit, I exercise my convenient illusion of free will:
1. Pick up the nearest book (of at least 123 pages). 2. Open the book to page 123. 3. Find the fifth sentence. 4. Post the next three sentences. 5. Tag five people.
"Click the wireless network you want to access (see Figure 10-3). Click connect. If your version of Windows XP has Service Pack 2 installed and you are trying to access an unsecured network, you will probably have to click the Allow Me to Connect to the Selected Wireless Network Even Though It Is Not Secure option."
How reassuring... NOT!
Anyway. I tag the next five people to read this... which I'm pretty sure means you. Yes, you. Go on, go on, you know there's a book within reach...
